John Zachary started his career in woodworking in 1974 with 18 months of study under an English furniture maker in Western Massachusetts. He relocated to Boston and spent two years as one of the partners in Boston Cabinet-Making. After returning to Western Mass he worked in other cabinet shops in the Valley. Since 1984, he has owned or co-owned his own shop, specializing in custom built-in cabinetry and furniture of all kinds. He and Barry Daggett have worked together since 1996, formalizing their working partnership with the establishment in 2006 of Water Street Furniture Studio. Together, they take pride in providing every client with the best in workmanship and value.
Barry began studying woodworking and furniture design while attending the University of New Hampshire. Upon graduation he moved to Northampton, Massachusetts where there were many woodworkers in the area and he could follow his interests and gratification in woodworking. He started working for John and his business partner at the Zachary/Siff Group in 1996. In 2000, Barry moved with John and others to the current Water Street location to form a cooperative shop and focus primarily on furniture. Barry worked independently and continued to work on many projects with John. In 2006 Water Street Furniture Studio was formally formed as a business entity. Along with the enjoyment of forming partnerships and building relationships with clients, Barry continues to pursue his interests and gratification in woodworking.
